Reservations & Rates
Burlingame State Campground is booked through Reserve America, online or at 1-877-742-2675. As of October 2026, all 2027 camping reservations are on hold while RI DEM chooses a new reservation provider, so you cannot book next season yet. Sites without hookups cost $18 a night for Rhode Island residents and $36 for non-residents, plus an $8.75 reservation fee.

2027 Reservations Are on Hold
RI DEM is selecting a new reservation services provider for 2027 and beyond. Until that is done, every 2027 reservation at the state campgrounds is on hold. DEM says it will share updates and notify customers when booking reopens, and asks campers to make sure their contact details in their Reserve America profile are correct so the notice reaches them.
This page will change when DEM announces the new system. For now, the rules below are the ones DEM published for 2026.
How 2026 Went
In 2026 the restroom construction delayed the season. DEM opened Burlingame reservations on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 9 a.m., and the first night you could book was Friday, June 12. Fewer sites were offered than usual because of the work. DEM expects construction to finish by April 2027. DEM has not announced 2027 dates.
Nightly Rates
DEM's published rates for state campgrounds, per site, per night:
- Tier 3, no hookups: $18 resident, $36 non-resident
- Primitive cabin, no water or electric: $50 resident, $75 non-resident
DEM's higher tiers are $24/$45 (Tier 2: electric, water or drive-through access) and $28/$55 (Tier 1: waterfront views, full hookups or drive-through access). Burlingame has no hookups, but Tier 1 also covers waterfront-view sites, so check the price shown on the individual site listing before you book. The daily rate covers up to six people on the site and one vehicle pass, either for a drivable camper or for the vehicle towing one.
Residency is based on the primary occupant's government photo ID and the address in their Reserve America profile. If you booked as a resident and cannot prove it at check-in, you are charged the non-resident rate.
Other Fees
- Reservation fee: $8.75, non-refundable, on every online or call-center booking. Walk-in reservations at the campground do not pay it.
- Second car pass: $12 per reservation.
- Visitor pass: $8 per vehicle per day, up to two at a time per site.
- Septic dump station: $20 per vehicle for non-campers. Each reservation includes one septic dump and/or water tank fill per week.
- Showers: coin-operated, as metered.
Minimum and Maximum Stays
DEM's peak season runs from the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend to the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.
- Before June 1: the minimum booking is two nights, and three nights over Memorial Day, Labor Day and the Fourth of July when the Fourth falls on a Friday or Monday.
- After June 1: any site still open can be booked for one night.
- Peak-season maximum: 14 nights in any 21-day period. After 14 nights in a row, you and your camper must leave for seven nights before you book again. DEM enforces this strictly, including against bookings made under a different name.
- Off-peak: one-night minimum and a maximum of 21 nights in any 28 days.
Same-Day and Walk-Up Camping
You can book online up to 12 p.m. on the day you arrive. After noon, same-day sites are sold only at the campground, first come, first served. One customer can hold up to three reservations for the same dates, but each needs a different primary occupant.
Cancellations and Changes
- 8 or more days before arrival: full refund, minus the reservation fee and an $8.75 cancellation fee.
- 2 to 7 days before: you lose one night, the reservation fee and the $8.75 cancellation fee.
- Less than 2 days before: no refund.
- Changing dates or length of stay before you arrive costs $8.75. After midnight on your arrival day, changes are made only at the campground permit office.
No refunds are given for weather, site conditions, no-shows or leaving early. DEM's policy puts it this way: refunds are not issued "due to the discomforts of nature." If the state closes the campground for a named storm or other emergency, campers get the unused part of their stay back.
Cancel in your Reserve America account or by calling 1-877-742-2675.
No-Shows
You must occupy the site on the first night. If you have not arrived and have not called, the booking is cancelled, the money is kept and the site is sold. Call the campground at (401) 409-1138 if you will be late.
Before You Book
Look at DEM's construction site map first, since some open sites sit next to work zones. Read the campground guide for check-in times and amenities, and the cabins page if you want a roof over your head. Other state campgrounds are compared on the Rhode Island state campgrounds page.
